California State Railroad Museum
The California State Railroad Museum (125 I St, Sacramento, CA 95814) anchors the historic Old Sacramento Waterfront district and holds one of the largest railroad history collections in North America — more than 225,000 artifacts and 21 restored locomotives and cars spread across 100,000 square feet of exhibit space. School groups, history buffs, and family reunions all make the run here from Rancho Cordova via US-50 West and I-5 North, a trip of roughly 25 minutes in normal traffic. Bus drop-off uses the Old Sacramento street grid along Front Street and I Street near the waterfront — confirm current access with the museum before your visit, as the historic district has limited through traffic on certain blocks.
